Unicon, I would not argue that our ears just don’t care as much about amplitude as they do about phase; I have been pitching it myself. However, I think you do properly interpret the need of the “exact parallel sound from drivers”. The parallelness o...

I also am selling my JBL 2490 mid-range drivers and perhaps a collection of my original Aura 1808 drivers. The 2490 drivers are new and Auras are some old and some new. I just do not see myself to develop any inspiration to use them......

Romy,I half expected some kind of whipping from you which I fully welcome. I am guessing some of it is to see if I buckle and get all weepy under a critical look at my statements but hopefully you are just trying to possibly get me to clarify my obje...
I was very slightly open the back chamber of the driver that gave to me some ease at lower knee.
Congratulations you have found and use this principle, otherwise the back chamber acts like pneumatic brake for the low...
Do not worry, you won’t be happy with your new speakers
as well. It is a little dirty secret that no one told you yet: speakers do not
give happiness.
In my case only speakers can give me happiness, because with e...
I tend to like drivers with plastic suspension. Radian makes retrofit diaphragms for JBL with plastic suspension, maybe they will help you achieve the tone you are looking for.

If you ask me the compression drivers is like the jbl 2420/2470 design only with an other back chamber. And the low freq driver really makes me think of an old alnico driver of jbl 2220A http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/jbl/specs/pro-comp/2420/p...

A six year ago or so when I played with different compression drivers I bought a pair of Dukane 5A540 and at that time I was not able to find any information about them. Nowadays I was pointed out that an eBay sealer “ bayleafs” actions a pair of Duk...

I have written in past about my lack of love to the BMS drivers. The crazy, as far as I concerned “annoyingly wiling” angeloitacare brought this subject to this forum while he was galloping across Web, “picking from graves” about his new dB-Design’s ...

Yes, it’s the drivers that inspired me to write up this thread. The response looks like it rises slightly atop but it is almost OK for this type of the drivers. Running the driver off the axis it is possible to roll off the HF rise. It is pretty much...

If you are correct there should me a large gap in the market for any company that really cares about sound. Returning to the topic of the thread, have you noticed wide discrepancies in the 'sound' of S2 drivers even between drivers manufactured withi...
The electricity comment is interesting as today I put on some jazz music and the HF is very snappy, excellent! I feel like posting on AA to ask people's opinons if it's the electricity or if my concrete horns are going thro...

We, the horn people, know what the compression drivers could do. The controlled dispersion, low distortions, low mechanical dependency, low magnetic anomalies, high efficiency, higher maximum dynamics and many-many more advance are well known. The te...
The best driver I have heard is the TAD 4003.
It does not use the secondary resonance of the suspension, as described by Duke LeJeune above for the TAD 4001-4002, to extend the response towards 20 kHz, but has a natural roll off fro...

I still remember proposed solution for symetrical TAD 1201 horn loaded midbass sections. Was it to free listener from sweet spot low seat position ? I could imagine that that midbass horn performing up to 1000Hz sitting low on the floor would impair&...

Eduardo,
Thanks for your thoughts and illustrations. I also do not feel that loosely-suspended very small metal cone might be a right solution for midbass. To develop LF you need pressure, pressure is surface by exertion – there is nothing els...

I think clearing this up this may be of benefit to other users who are building multi-way horns.
Let's say I've got two horns mounted on a frame. There's a high horn
above and a mid horn below and they are physically time aligned, meaning

Oliver,
Yes, in the first links that you sent it is clearly visible a fabric suspension – very interesting. Who is that guys? Are his drivers commercially available? Well, I asked and then I made a pose for myself. Well, a hard-suspended and fabric-...

Hey Romy,The Goto drivers (505TT, 100-8khz) and horns (S150, 150hz round exponential) finally arrived. I've only had them for a week so I can't say much about them besides they're not a simple drop in replacement of the previous 10" TAD woofer (200hz...

These are clearly JBL pots and back covers (which have been milled flat). The refinishing job is quite nice, but the origins are clear. Also, the phenolic diaphragm is clearly for the 2482/2485 (and looks like a JBL part), which has a slightly wider ...
